Learn How to Thrive Rather than Survive
Seeking retreat is one of the best ways to take care of yourself. It is an act of self-love. You are no good to anyone or your life path if you’re exhausted from working so hard to keep it all together; emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. It’s a win-win when you take care of yourself. Your cup runneth over, so to speak, and you have the energy to take care of your family and community.
I speak from experience. Once I finally started taking more time to go on weekend retreats to the coast or day retreats for surfing, I was able to show up and be present for my family and patients.
I know it seems impossible to go on retreat with all the responsibilities you have and the roles that you fill. Time just keeps slipping through your fingers as you trudge through the many checklists.
I am guilty of putting others before myself and working to the point of exhaustion. Eventually the body breaks down and becomes ill. Then you are forced on retreats of bedrest and recuperation. I am challenging you to go on retreat before the breakdown. Go on chosen retreats that support and rejuvenate you. Just as you must maintain your car with routine oil changes, you must maintain the body with regular retreats.
A daily retreat is meditation. Taking 20 minutes 2 times a day helps me thrive instead of survive. The meditation technique I teach is easy and you can do it anywhere–the car, the bathtub, the park bench–any place that you can grab just a few minutes of peace.
One of my favorite retreats is, of course, the Indigo Meditation Retreat. 3-4 days of sinking into deep, nourishing relaxation, relishing in healing waters and reaching the type of rest that you feel at a cellular level. Being around people that exude unconditional love and acceptance, that smile with their entire face and see you as chosen family. It is such a extraordinary healing experience.
The next Indigo Meditation Retreat is at Summer Lake Hot Springs, one of my favorite places to visit in southern Oregon. While meditation will nourish you from the inside out, the hot springs of Summer Lake will refresh you from the outside in.
